# Change the subscription plan (tier switch with proration)

PATCH https://api.voicebip.com/v1/workspace/subscription
Content-Type: application/json

Switches the workspace to the requested plan with mid-period
proration applied atomically. The response envelope includes:

- `subscription`: the updated row.
- `proration`: refund of unused old-tier base + prorated new-tier
  base, net of both. Positive `net_minor` = debit; negative =
  credit. Charges recorded in the recurring_charges ledger.
- `quota_after`: absolute voice/SMS/WhatsApp remaining counts
  AFTER carryover. Unused quota from the old tier is preserved
  and added to the new tier's included quantities.

Errors:
- `400 NO_OP` if already on that plan.
- `400 TIER_SWITCH_UNSUPPORTED` on PAYG workspaces.
- `402 INSUFFICIENT_BALANCE` if the upgrade's net charge
  exceeds the workspace balance; customer must top up first.
- `404 NO_ACTIVE_SUBSCRIPTION` when nothing to switch.

Retries are idempotent: a client that sends the same PATCH
twice (e.g. after a network timeout) will not be double-billed.
The second call either returns `NO_OP` (if the first apply
completed) or replays the first call's response (if the client
retried while the first was in flight).

### ProrationSummary

- `refund_minor` (long, required) — Prorated refund of the OLD tier's unused base fee, in minor units. Always >= 0. Zero when the old tier is free.
- `charge_minor` (long, required) — Prorated charge for the NEW tier's base fee, in minor units. Always >= 0. Zero when downgrading to a free tier.
- `net_minor` (long, required) — charge_minor - refund_minor. Positive = debit (upgrade cost); negative = credit (downgrade refund).
- `proration_ratio` (double, required) — days_remaining / period_days, rounded to 4 decimals.
- `days_remaining` (integer, required) — Whole days left in the current billing period at switch time.
- `period_days` (integer, required) — Total length of the current billing period in days.

### QuotaAfter

- `voice_minutes_remaining` (long, required) — Total voice minutes the workspace can consume before overage pricing kicks in. Equal to (unused_from_old_tier + new_tier_included).
- `sms_remaining` (long, required)
- `whatsapp_remaining` (long, required)
- `numbers_included` (integer, required) — Ceiling of phone numbers included in the new tier's monthly fee. Numbers above this count are billed as overage by the recurring cron.
